Privacy Policy
Effective 2 October 2026
Waypoint is a client for MUDs (multiplayer text games). It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no server of its own. Nothing about you leaves your iPhone unless you choose to send it.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your password is never stored. It is held only while you are connected, and there is no place in the app where it is saved.
- Saved characters keep the game, host, port and character name, so you can reconnect quickly. Not the password.
- Your history — commands you typed (with passwords removed before anything is saved) and the game text you saw — is kept so you can look back at what you were doing.
- Chat is kept as received, so your conversations have no gaps. Blocking a player or filtering words changes only what you see.
- Your settings: shortcuts, aliases, blocked players, metrics, panels and the like.
All of this is stored only on your iPhone, separately for each character. You can clear it in the app's Settings, or delete the app to remove all of it.
What goes to the games you play
When you connect, Waypoint talks directly to the game you chose: your character name, password and everything you type go to that game, as with any MUD client. Each game has its own privacy policy and rules; Waypoint does not control them.
Maps
Waypoint shows a map beside the text, and it can get that map in several ways:
- Published maps: many games publish a map of their world.
- Community maps: some maps are shared openly by player communities.
- Our own maps: Waypoint may also provide maps of its own.
- Maps drawn as you walk: where no map exists, Waypoint draws one from the rooms you visit.
Downloading a map works just like opening a web page: the site that hosts it sees your IP address, and nothing about you is sent. Some map downloads can be turned off in Settings → Maps.
What you can choose to send us
Only when you send it, by email, from your own mail app, where you see the whole message before you press Send:
- Feedback: what you write, plus the app version, your iPhone model, iOS version, the game you were on and whether you were connected. Never your password, what you typed, the game text or your chats.
- A reported chat message: that one message, who sent it, the channel and the game, and nothing around it.
We receive these as ordinary emails, along with your email address as your mail app sends it. They are used only to fix problems and answer you, kept only as long as they are useful for that, and never shared or sold.
Ratings
Waypoint may show Apple's standard rating prompt. Ratings and reviews are handled by Apple under its own privacy policy.
Children
Waypoint is not directed at children. The games it connects to have their own age requirements.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
